About the Test Paper Format

The Listening, Reading and Writing components must be completed on the same day. The face-to-face Speaking test is optional depending on the specific grade requirements of each institution or course. This may be offered on the same day or up to a month before or after the other components.

As speaking is an active component, it is subjective, difficult to homogenise, open to prejudice and difficult to calibrate. Therefore Anglia has chosen to make the speaking test an optional component, which if taken, would account for 20% of the final grade. This also allows the student to take the most suitable level based on Academic Institution requirements. The speaking test is conducted by professional external examiners, recorded as an MP3 and sent to the Anglia UK Head office for moderation.

The certificates are valid indefinitely though institutions may wish candidates to re-take a specific level if a significant period has lapsed since the last test, dependent on the candidate’s individual circumstances during that time period.

Each and every test version is unique so no candidate will ever receive the same test paper twice.

Speaking Tests

The speaking test is part of Anglia Examinations suite of assessment. It is an optional module and candidates may only register for the speaking test if they are taking the other General English three skills, reading, writing & listening, at the same time. The speaking test is not available as a stand-alone examination. It is offered at all levels from First Step to Masters and also for candidates who wish to participate in Business General English.
